Paula Uruburu is an Associate Professor and former Chair of
the English Department at Hofstra University on Long Island.
She received a BA and a PhD from SUNY Stony Brook in
English. A specialist in American Literature, women’s studies,
film history, and 19th and 20th Century American popular
culture, she is the acknowledged expert on Evelyn Nesbit.
Paula has acted as a consultant to A&E, PBS, and the History
Channel. Of Basque-Irish descent, she is a native New Yorker,
born in Queens who grew up in Massapequa (which Jerry
Seinfeld says is Native American for ‘by the mall.’”) She
currently lives in her haunted 1890 house in Lindenhurst and
has always liked the fact that her last name is a palindrome.
